Interview Evaluation Guide

Use this guide when evaluating each venture. Rate each of the five criteria below on a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is the lowest and 5 is the highest. Consider the specific indicators listed under each rating level to inform your assessment.

1. Church Fit

Scale 1–5

The idea fits with the church's mission and values, could inspire a high level of congregation involvement, and will benefit the community.

5 Outstanding fit

Clear opportunity for broad congregational involvement
Aligns with and advances the church's mission and values
Applies and builds upon the congregation's capabilities
Would stretch and strengthen the church community

4 Fits well with the church

3 Potential to be embraced

Involvement of the church is not fully articulated, but shows promise
Could inspire members with more knowledge of the church community

2 This is a stretch

1 Doesn't fit well

Doesn't exhibit opportunity for congregational involvement
Doesn't align with the church's mission and values
Low likelihood of congregational interest

2. Compelling Idea / Societal Impact

Scale 1–5

The idea is innovative and has the potential to offer a lasting positive impact by demonstrating Christian values of faith, service, mercy, compassion, grace, peace, and/or reconciliation.

5 Incredibly compelling

Mission suggests Christian values
Vision for significant and lasting impact
Understanding of the issue with measurable outcomes
Demonstrates potential for a compelling and captivating story

4 Above average compelling

3 Moderately compelling

Idea is compelling but not yet well-defined
Target of impact is clear, but extent is unclear
Christian values implied but not spelled out

2 Minimally compelling

1 Not compelling

Poorly defined mission; not rooted in Christian values
Impact unclear
Low likelihood of growth or sustainability

3. Self-Supportive Idea

Scale 1–5

The implementation plan, resources, and applicant capabilities are sufficient to ensure successful implementation and sustainability.

5 Incredibly feasible

Resource requirements are well thought out
Applicant has requisite skills/capabilities
Risks and obstacles clearly identified and addressed
Local to Atlanta area
Currently generating revenue and profits
Revenue model includes fee-for-service component

4 Definitely feasible but needs work

Great potential that can flourish with some help
Generating revenue, maybe not profit
Revenue model includes fee-for-service component

3 Shows promise

Resource requirements need more specifics
Has some requisite skills but may have blind spots
Metrics mentioned but not well-defined
Clear path to generating revenue beyond fundraising

2 Possible, but hard

Requires revamping business plan
Needs enhanced leadership team

1 Not feasible

Financial analysis unclear and unrealistic
No experience or study of area addressed
Risks not identified or addressed
No possibility of revenue beyond fundraising

4. Founder / Leadership

Scale 1–5

The founder or leadership team is equipped with the experience, skills, network, and leadership qualities necessary to deliver on the vision.

5 Fully equipped

Functional leadership team with clear division of responsibilities
Possesses the necessary network and alliances
Demonstrates high standards; effective during adversity
Communicates an inspiring vision; instills confidence and trust

Awareness of strengths and weaknesses

3 Plan to build team

Interest in building network and alliances
Envisions high standards; communicates well

2 Sole/co-founders only

Modestly interested in building a leadership team

Not aware of the need to build a leadership team or network

5. Engagement

Scale 1–5

The venture enthusiastically embraces FPC and the Epiphany experience and is interested in establishing a mutually beneficial relationship going forward.

Demonstrates interest in creating a mutually beneficial relationship
Timely, responsive, and submits complete materials
